The secret to unlocking all that your heart desires lies in reclaiming your most valuable resource - your time and energy!

The key is putting your smartphone away for the first 3 hours of your day and using that time to create an empowering morning routine that will supercharge your life!

Our attention is so valuable that all the big tech and social media companies are constantly vying for it.

This phenomena is covered in depth in the eye-opening documentary, The Social Dilemma. If you haven’t seen it, we highly recommend it!

Last week, I was having a very hard time focusing. Even when I would try to read a book, my mind would wander.

Something was different - what was it?

I had been unconsciously getting online first thing in the morning.

This seemingly harmless act was actually rewiring my brain to be easily distracted and have a shorter attention span.

That’s when we realized that our phones (and social media especially) were sucking all of our best energy and attention.

So, we decided to commit to staying off of our smartphones for the first three hours of every day.

When we first wake up, our brains are in the Theta-Alpha State and are highly programmable.

This magical time is so important that we want it to be screen-free with no distractions so that we can reclaim our most valuable resource - our time and energy!

This morning routine is what we follow and it has been boosting our creativity and sending our productivity through the roof!

Not only are we more productive, we also feel better, have more energy and more clarity throughout the entire day.

*Keep in mind, you should design a morning routine that works for you!

Let’s jump into it:

#1 Lemon Water

First thing we do is drink 1 quart of filtered water with the juice from ½ of a lemon.

Lemon juice is a tonic for our organs and stimulates the liver to release bile.

This is a fantastically stimulating ritual first thing in the morning because our liver is stagnant from lying in bed all night.

Plus, we really benefit from the hydration!

We both noticed that we are having much more regular bowel movements since we added the lemon water to our mornings.

#2 Make a Tasty Hot Beverage

Make something that you really enjoy!

We like to do butter coffee. It sounds weird but it’s really tasty, especially blended because that makes it frothy!

Butter is a super food for our brains. I love how butter coffee kicks us into Ketosis.

We learned about this from Dave Asprey’s book, Head Strong.

Ketosis is training the body to burn fat as fuel instead of sugar.

When in Ketosis, our liver produces Keytones which are then utilized as fuel on a cellular level.

Our mitochondria, the powerhouse of our cells, are supercharged by keytones.

When the body is in ketosis, it feels like a rush of coherent mental and physical energy.

There is lots of exciting science emerging about the benefits of utilizing dietary ketosis to boost your brain function and feel amazing!

This is a deep subject and we highly recommend reading Head Strong for more on this subject.

#3 Reading, Writing (or both)

Write in a Journal.

I personally do Morning pages instead of formal journal writing.

Morning Pages are a part of The Artists Way by Julia Cameron which I first discovered 20 years ago when I was seeking inspiration for more creativity in my life.

This particular style of writing has been one of the single most rewarding techniques that I use daily. I highly recommend it!

While I write, Terry likes to read a book or magazine that is inspiring or motivating or informative (No News).

#4 Supplements that boost your Energy

As a preworkout booster drink, we mix into water these three things:

BCAAs, Nootropics, and MCT’s.

  • BCAA’s (Branch Chain Amino Acids) are essential for muscle repair

  • Nootropics boost brain function

  • MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycirides) are easily converted to energy quickly by the liver

Wow, does it really work! Our bodies are humming with energy and ready for activity by this point.

#5 Get moving

Yoga and stretching is great everyday. We also like to mix in alternating days of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and resistance training with weights.

If working out isn’t your thing, take a walk. Walking for at least 2-4 miles is recommended. Walking has all kinds of wonderful benefits for your body and mind!

The important thing is to get moving somehow and take advantage of all the energy that you have activated.

#6 Deep Work for one hour

By this time, we have activated all kinds of good energy and brain power!

This is the most productive time for working on new ideas and projects.

We like to dedicate this time to writing our blog and brainstorming future ideas.

#7 Nourish and Replenish

It’s time to eat! We do intermittent fasting, so we like to eat our first meal of the day usually around noon.

what a typical breakfast for us looks like

This gives us an eating window of 8 hours and a fasting time of 16 hours.
Our first meal always has lots of fresh greens, veggies, and high quality protein.

It’s important that the food is organic and locally sourced as much as possible.

Food that is free of pesticides is better for you and better for our environment.

Organic can sometimes cost more, but it’s worth it because organically grown fruits and vegetables are 60% more nutrient-dense than conventionally grown.

Now that you are fully accomplished and well-nourished, remember to enjoy your day!

That’s it!

This is a schedule we designed specifically for us and it works really well.

A different routine might work better for you. Find what appeals to you and design a morning routine that really empowers your life!

What does your ideal morning look/feel/taste/smell like?

Incorporate any or all of the suggestions from us into your morning routine and notice the difference in your overall well-being.

Just remember - the first three hours of each day are prime time for supporting a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

Energy flows where attention goes, so protect your brain health and reclaim your best energy and headspace for your life. You will be amazed!
