Would you like to turn your RV bathroom into a personal spa with just one upgrade?

In this blog we will be talking about one of the most significant upgrades that we have done to our RV. We say “most significant” because it really changed our everyday lives.

Having hot water is one of the greatest joys of our modern existence. We all know what a head change it can be to take a nice, hot shower and that can have a huge effect on your day.

We went from quick, “in-and-out” showers to basking in the relaxing hot water on our aching muscles for as long as needed. It feels so luxurious!

Not only is our experience so much better showering and doing the dishes, but we are actually saving money on propane as well in the long run because the tank-less on-demand water heater is 60% more efficient than the old tank water heater.

“Endless” Hot Water from our On-Demand Suburban Propane Hot Water Heater

It sounds almost too good to be true but, that’s what upgrading to an on-demand water heater in our RV did for us!

RV living can be incredibly efficient. It can also be a great way to learn about our consumption of resources through tracking our use of things like water and propane. Our RV is almost 20 years old now, so many of the appliances onboard were outdated.

Hot water heaters installed in RVs often have a very small capacity. Ours had a 6-gallon tank. Within the first few months living with this, we discovered that the capacity was far too low for our use.

The old water heater was inefficient because the water heater was constantly running to keep the 6-gallons hot and ready for use. Then, the tank would run out so quick that often we would have to wait at least 30 minutes for it to heat another 6-gallons up to temperature. That was terribly inconvenient and the cause for a great deal of frustration.

Fortunately, RV water heaters have advanced quite a bit in the past few years. Out of all the options out there, we chose the Suburban iW60 on demand water heater.

We went with this model for a few very good reasons. First and foremost was because it was made to fit the same space in the RV as the existing 6-gallon water heater. This made installation much easier because you can pretty much slide it right in!

The second reason is because Suburban is a well-known manufacturer of RV water heaters and components now for many years. They are a trusted industry leader known for their reliable performance, longevity and fantastic customer service.

The third reason is that this unit is very affordable priced.

The endless hot water is our favorite feature of our Suburban On demand water heater. Another perk is the built-in freeze protection which can really come in handy in the winter months here in the Pacific Northwest.

While this upgrade didn’t get us off of fossil fuels (as is our long-term goal), it did greatly reduce our use of propane. 7 gallons each month provides us with all of our hot water needs as well as cooking at a total cost of $200/year. This seemed like the most logical step on our mission to live more efficiently.

In the 4 years that we have been using our Suburban On Demand Water Heater, it has worked nearly flawlessly.
